The action begins one year after the events of Black Flag, with a new, unnamed player character from the I-perspective working for Abstergo Entertainment. In examining the memories of Shay Patrick Cormac, an Assassin who is in the North Atlantic during the Seven Years War in North America , accidentally throws a hidden storage file that paralyzes the Abstergo servers. The player is entrusted by Melanie Lemay and the boss of Abstergo, Otso Berg, to explore Cormac's memories further and bring the Animus system back online. In addition, there are indications that Shay has turned away from the Assassins to join the Templars .
The story of Shay Patrick Cormac plays at the time of the Seven Years War and accompanies the main character Shay Patrick Cormac in his transformation from the Assassins to the Templar.
